Ya se sospechaba, pero este descubrimiento parece confirmarlo: los pantalones se inventaron para montar a caballo. El par de prendas de algodón que ha encontrado un equipo de investigadores del Instituto Alemán de Arqueología pertenecían a dos pastores nómadas enterrados en una tumba de la Cuenca del Tarim, en el oeste de China, hace unos 3.000 años, como ha determinado la prueba de radiocarbono.

 

Serían, pues, los pantalones más antiguos descubiertos hasta la fecha, que desbancan a otros de Nepal confeccionados hace 2.400 años. Dos detalles hacen pensar que sus dueños eran jinetes: la anchura y refuerzos de la entrepierna y el corte recto de las perneras.

Los expertos creen que el ser humano empezó no demasiado antes –quizá hace 4.000 años– a montar a caballo, y que esta práctica fue la que le empujó a innovar en materia textil: era imprescindible proteger la parte inferior del abdomen, la zona interior de los muslos y las ingles de la continua fricción sobre el lomo de la montura.  Antes ya existían túnicas, faldas o, como llevaba el hombre de Ötzi hace 5.300 años, curiosos conjuntos de taparrabos y una prenda para cada pierna.

Already suspected, but this discovery seems to confirm this: the pants were invented for riding. The pair of cotton garments that found a team of researchers from the German Institute of Archaeology belonged to two pastoralists buried in a tomb in the Tarim Basin in western China, about 3,000 years ago, as determined test radiocarbon.

They would therefore be the oldest discovered to date pants that desbancan others from Nepal made 2,400 years ago. Two details suggest that their owners were riders: the width and crotch reinforcements and cut the legs straight.

Experts believe that humans began not too long before, perhaps 4,000 years ago to ride, and that this practice was the one that led him to innovate textile materials was essential to protect the lower abdomen, inner zone thighs and English from continuous rubbing on the back of the saddle. Before existed tunics, skirts or, as the man Ötzi wore 5300 years ago, curious sets loincloth and a pledge for each leg.
